Jessica Simpson has recently had an ugly experience with the constantly annoying paparazzi.A Saturday night out turned ugly for her and her best friend, hairstylist Ken Paves, when he was injured by photographers outside L.A. hotspot Madeo.

As the friends exited the restaurant, photographers started surrounding the singer. Paves stepped in to protect Simpson when a pap struck him in the face with a camera. An observer tells PEOPLE that the injury was an accident.

“Everyone was pushing each other to get a picture of Jessica,” a source declared to the press.(probably a paparazzi also)
With blood running down his face, the two got into their vehicle, and Paves was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center according to a source. No police charges have been filed.

A call to Paves was not returned.

The same day Tony Romo told PEOPLE that he and Jessica Simpson are not engaged but that marriage is something on his mind, the couple had dinner at Greenwich Village hot spot Waverly Inn.

The two, both 27, are going strong and can’t bear to be apart, a source close to Simpson tells PEOPLE, adding: “They are doing great. They are really, really happy together.”

In New York to be with Romo when he accepted his award at Cosmopolitan’s Fun, Fearless Male luncheon, Simpson was due to fly to Nashville Tuesday before Romo joins her in Los Angeles, says the source.

“She’s having a great time and is loving life right now,” says the source. “She is happier than ever. Things with Tony are going really well.”

And should she ever settle down, there’s her 1,200-sq.-ft. Las Vegas condo in the Palms Place. Simpson has closed on a one-bedroom at the new 47-story hotel/residence set to open this weekend. (The condo was initially to be a newlywed pad for Simpson and then-husband Nick Lachey, but was awarded to Simpson as part of her divorce.)

And what does he think about what he hears? “I mean, it’s just rumors. That’s what people say,” the Dallas Cowboys quarterback, 27, declared at Monday’s Cosmopolitan Fun Fearless Male of the Year Awards – where he was honored alongside Simpson’s ex John Mayer and rumored former boyfriend Dane Cook. (“I guess you date Jessica Simpson, that makes you fearless!” Romo joked.)

But will there be marriage in Romo’s future?

“I’m sure I’ll get married one day. I don’t know when,” he says.

As for being with Simpson, also 27, Romo declares:

Would Jessica call you fun and fearless?
Yeah, sure. Though we don’t usually have conversations about how fun and fearless I am, but I’m a pretty fun guy. I joke a lot.

What’s the last fun thing you two did?
We’ve done a lot of fun stuff. Any time you get away and do some interesting things. We just went to Hawaii for the Pro Bowl. That was pretty fun.

Is it true her father played matchmaker for the two of you?
No. I had met her dad a long time ago. He was there at the same time I met her, but it was indirect. You know, you just start talking. Some people take a liking to each other. Some don’t.

During the off-season, will you visit Jessica in Nashville, where she’s recording a country album?
Yeah. She’s working hard. She’s doing a great job, and I’m really excited about the way it sounds. It sounds real good. I’m excited.

The blonde singer will fly to Kuwait to entertain soldiers who are currently on duty in the Middle Eastern country.

She said: “I am heading to Kuwait to do a show for the troops, then back in the studio. It’s truly an honor to perform for the troops. I get to serve my country by doing what I love to do in front of thousands of brave men in uniform. It’s every girl’s dream!”

Her trip is being sponsored by social networking site, MySpace, under the name Operation MySpace.

Other acts set to perform at the concert on March 10 include the Pussycat Dolls and rock bands Disturbed and Filter.

Jessica is the latest in a long line of stars to perform for the armed services. She follows in the footsteps of Marilyn Monroe, Robin Williams, Mariah Carey and Welsh opera singer Katherine Jenkins.

In 2001, ‘Ocean’s Eleven’ stars George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Julia Roberts and Andy Garcia visited US troops at a military base in Turkey. While they were there they signed autographs, chatted and posed for pictures with the soldiers in a bid to boost their morale.

Out for a night on the town, Jessica Simpson was spotted leaving Katsuya nightclub with her hairstylist/BFF Ken Paves on Wednesday evening (February 20). “I think they’re going to get married,” pal Michael Starr told Us Weekly magazine, while Romo’s ex said: “They’re perfect for each other. They’re both funny and wonderful and kind. I’m rooting for them.” She even wanted to sue some tabloid magazine for spreading the rumour that she is going to separate her boyfriend. So there must be something going on for certain. And with the approval of Nick, everything is going to be dreamlike for the two doves.
